Welcome to the Enfield Food Shelf

From its humble beginning, hundreds of volunteers have contributed to the Enfield Food Shelf, Inc.'s effort to provide food to the families in need.  The Enfield Food Shelf is a non-profit volunteer organization affiliated with the Enfield Conference of Christian Churches and dedicated to" assuring that no Enfield resident goes hungry because of a lack of resources." The Food Shelf’s priority is to serve Enfield families and individuals needing food.

"Helping End Hunger in America"

17th Annual Feinstein Challenge

March 1 through April 30, 2014

feinstein

Founded in 1991 by Alan Shawn Feinstein, the Feinstein Foundation is dedicated to the alleviation of hunger, the importance of community service in education and the values of caring, compassion and brotherhood. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited requests for funding.

efs walk

My team, the Enfield Food Shelf's Winning Walkers, will be raising funds in support of Foodshare and nearly 300 partner organizations working to fight hunger here in greater Hartford. The more people we can recruit, the easier it will be to reach our goal of $5,000. And every $30 we raise provides an entire month's worth of food for one of our hungry neighbors.

I hope that you will consider joining our team. Together, we can take a stand against hunger!

Please contact me at epitti2005@yahoo.com or 860--741-7321.

Ernie Pitti, Team Leader

All monetary and food donations received and pledged ($1 per pound) during the Feinstein Challenge will be tabulated and eligible for consideration.  The total of the donations will be submitted to The Feinstein Foundation for consideration.  The foundation will send a pro-rated amount to us.  Food and cash donations will be accepted during operational hours.  Monetary contributions can be sent to the 96 Alden Avenue or made using the secure PayPal link below.

Volunteers are the backbone of our operation.  Every week, many individuals commit themselves to performing the many tasks necessary in order for our food bank to meet its mission.  Our volunteers are retirees, elementary and high school students, employees of businesses, college interns, and individuals from every "walk of life."  All are dedicated to helping others. These volunteers help unload food deliveries and donations, weigh and record the information, check and sort foods, stock the shelves, breakdown the cardboard, clean, assist during the family choice shopping, register and check-in families, escort first time families, explain additional services available, and supervise the check-out area.  Their cheerful enthusiasm, faithful assistance, sensitivity, and congeniality assure that our families receive the food assistance they need in a respectful and dignified manner.  We and our families are very fortunate to have this group of volunteers.  Their dedication and commitment to assisting families in need is a model for everyone.

SUE ISHNER

After the tragic death of her daughter, Sue needed something to help her cope.  Of her experiences with us, Sue said, "Thanks to the Enfield Food Shelf, Linda, and the wonderful volunteers, I am alive again!"

DAVID STEINMANN

Upon retirement, David began to volunteer at our food bank 3 days each week.  About his 4 years with us, David states that he has become the "go to guy," enjoys being with the volunteers and clients, and has a lot of fun.
